Hi! My name is Tamar Guse, I’m a basket weaver and sculptor, weaving up a storm in my workshop in North Canterbury, New Zealand.

As I grew up in New Zealand, I have had the opportunity to explore various art forms over the years. Among all of them, Fibre Art has always captured my imagination with its unique texture, distinctive form and endless possibilities for creation. My artwork is heavily inspired by nature, and I love incorporating natural elements such as driftwood, vines and antlers into it. While traditional baskets are good for practising technique, my true passion is weaving sculptural forms that echo the environment around me.

My Story.

A woman sitting cross-legged inside a wooden yurt, smiling while weaving a basket in her lap. The yurt has a stained glass window and a wooden lattice pattern on the walls.

I teach a range of basket weaving workshops for beginners and intermediate basket weavers throughout the South Island of New Zealand.

I also provide private tuition and workshops for community and craft groups. If you are interested in booking me for a group workshop please get in touch.
